Mad Men: Let’s Get Serious For A Second / EUROCAST #7
Mike Jozaitis - Sr. Digital Marketing Strategist @mjoza | michael.jozaitis@havasdiscovery.com
Mad Men.
Just reading the show’s name aloud in your head might conjure up some images, feelings, emotions or scene flashbacks of the show.
- The never-ending drinking or smoking?
- How Don pulled in that big account?
- How much of a jerk Pete Campbell is?
- Or…how about real, honest-to-goodness, social change?
Whatever it may be, Mad Men is hands down the most talked about, buzzed about, “water coolered” show when you work in advertising. We did a little internal poll, completely un-scientific of course, and barely anyone here watches ‘The Pitch.’ Sorry, AMC.
Now…back to Mad Men and social change for a second.
In a very social podcast we recorded last week myself (@mjoza), Andy Locke (@andrew_b_locke), Account Director, and Jamie Breazeale, VP of Media sat down to talk all things Mad Men – but with a twist.
This isn’t an episode or season recap, nor a character analysis, so there are no spoilers here to watch out for. We’re talking about the cultural impact and evolution of the American way of life from the 1960s to now and the differences in working in advertising today, vs. TV’s version of it.
Even if you’re not into Mad Men check out this podcast, where we talk about everything from the women’s movement and race riots in the mid-to-late 1960s to the types of social events that are running in parallel today – the occupy movement, gay marriage debate and the power of Twitter as a medium for breaking news and spreading thought and opinion.
I don’t want to give away much more – so turn up your speakers or plug in your ear buds. You’re in for a treat.

EUROCAST #6 – Facebook’s IPO Disaster, Yahoo’s (new) New CEO and Pay-As-You-Go ISP Pricing
Mike Jozaitis - Sr. Digital Marketing Strategist @mjoza | michael.jozaitis@havasdiscovery.com
It’s been another crazy week in marketing and tech news!
Tons going on, but the elephant in the room this week is Facebook and the investor disaster that’s resulted from (what analysts are saying was) an overpriced IPO that hit the public markets on May 18th.
Since the opening bell rang last friday Friday, the stock’s been in a free-fall mode and dropped almost 20%. Right now it’s sitting at $32 as I type this post and lawsuits are starting to fly in; aimed at everyone from bankers that priced the offering to Facebook and NASDAQ itself.
Before the madness got EVEN worse I sat down with Carolyn Hammock (@chammock), Account Supervisor and Jordan Haven, Interactive Producer. We discussed…
- The Facebook IPO kerfuffle
- The return of pay-for-what-you-use style data and bandwidth plans from wireless providers, ISPs and cable companies
- Yahoo’s next chapter under new interim CEO Ross Levinsohn

EUROCAST #5 – Gaming Special
Mike Jozaitis - Sr. Digital Marketing Strategist @mjoza | michael.jozaitis@havasdiscovery.com
This week we’re happy to bring you a very special EUROCAST – a full episode dedicated to the impact social media and mobile devices have had on the gaming industry.
To discuss this hot topic (no pun intended), we’re joined by long time friends of the show, Joe Burnap (@JosephBurnap), IT Specialist and Scott Robertson, Associate Creative Director and new guest, Geoff Brinck, Staff Accountant.
Our panel of experts discuss the evolution of gaming from playing video games like Sonic The Hedgehog or Super Mario on the couch in your living room to the impact Facebook has had on helping reinvent what it means to be a “gamer” for a whole new generation.
From Zynga’s Farmville and Words With Friends to Rovio’s Angry Birds (we discussed the newest iteration of the game in a previous episode) gaming in 2012 is a whole different experience than what “playing a game” meant even a few years back.
Social media has allowed for a whole new level of game mechanics to be added – you can instantly play a game inside Facebook with your friend that might be across the world, or even play against your neighbor next door while you’re walking to work in the morning.
Join us and learn a little bit more about the future of gaming and what opportunities it holds for us as marketers!
